We’ll talk a bit about the elements of design in England during the rise of cottage gardens, then let loose as we put those elements to use and decorate our own whimsical terra cotta pots. Lollygag on the lawn and get lost in the fun of creating as we listen to the sounds of Lana’s The Little House Baby Grand Piano. Go home with a stack of pots, suitable for filling with a bounty of plants or decorating an interior.  Exquisite desserts and world class tea included for your enjoyment during the workshop. POETRY: THE IMAGE

Every moment we process many images. Over a lifetime, our image bank stretches into the millions of stored files. Some stay with us in vivid detail becoming imbued with personal symbolism. Others grow buried beneath other “mind stuff.” Through reading, meditation, and guided journaling let’s begin fleshing out some of the archetypes of our lives. Some workshop time can be devoted to discussion of participant’s poems created in the workshop. Bring a pen and your journal. Pretty pictures – suitable for framing

This tour of Lana’s cottage garden will encourage a look beyond the blossoms, as artists do. Sure, we’ll enjoy the flowers; then focus on finding the garden’s own art - the lines, forms and colors that make it beautiful. After looking at a few Still Lives of master artists through the ages, we’ll use watercolor and other media and create our own masterpieces. Garden art paper

Learn the basics of papermaking—and prepare to get your feet wet. We’ll take a walk through Lana’s field to gather grasses and other pretty things, then return to the garden shed to incorporate our natural goodies into hand-crafted papers. You’ll go home with a few sheets of your own one-of-a-kind creations. It’s a recipe for fun!  Exquisite desserts and world class tea included for your enjoyment during the workshop. PERSONAL AUTOBIOGRAPHY: MEMOIR

Composing a memoir is rooted in a process of self-discovery. Let’s spend some time fleshing out the life experiences that identify who we are. Through reading, meditation, and guided journaling, we will compose prose reflections. A special feature of this workshop will be discussion of possibilities for focusing participant’s writing.  We can constructively comment upon each other’s work, and as time permits, critique up to five pages of each participant’s previously submitted work (optional). Bring a favorite pen and journal as well as work that you’d like critiqued.  Exquisite desserts and world class tea included for your enjoyment during the workshop. Bed and breakfast for the birds

Invite your feathered friends in for bed and breakfast this winter—create an edible birdhouse! First, we’ll talk about a few of the hows and whats of gardening that offer shelter and sustenance to welcome the birds of our region. Then we’ll create a whimsical bird cottage with seeds and other goodies—just in time for helping our feathered friends fend off hunger in the coming winter months.  Exquisite desserts and world class tea included for your enjoyment during the workshop.
